Smarana

Born in Styria in 1971, Smarana – inspired by his father, a psychologist and psychotherapist –  began meditating seriously at around age 17. Today he manages a department store branch and is a longtime member of the group. Whenever we give concerts or are on tour he is there – except for the time between June and August, which is when he participates in the 3100-mile race, the longest certified foot race in the world.  Smarana is a part of the world’s elite of ultra-ultra runners of
our time. 7 times he has already completed this race successfully. Like many of his peers, he has a will of iron and relentless endurance. However, he admits that his running feats depend on his ability to invoke power from above and to let himself be used by this power. Otherwise, Smarana tells us, he would not be one of the just two dozen people to date who have completed this race which requires superhuman physical and mental strength. He couldn’t have done it without meditating sincerely for years.

In his spare time, Smarana also heads a marathon association
www.srichinmoyraces.org/at, organizing various races in Vienna.
The 100 km race, which receives press coverage almost every year, is a gem for dedicated endurance runners. Of course, Smarana considers a 100 k race just a warm-up as he has to complete two marathons each day for 50 consecutive days in the 3100-mile race. We can’t imagine our ensemble without him.
